A bimetallic strip protector is a device used to safeguard electrical equipment. It incorporates a thermal sensing element-consisting of a strip made from two different materials-into the circuit. When the current exceeds the rated value, the thermal element heats up and deforms, thereby opening the circuit and cutting off the power supply to ensure the safety of the electrical equipment.
The operating principle relies on the differing thermal expansion coefficients of the two metals forming the strip. When the current exceeds the rated value, the heat generated causes one metal to expand more than the other; this differential expansion induces bending, which triggers the mechanical mechanism to disconnect the circuit and protect the equipment.
